Rules used for griha pravesh
- Nakshatras: Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati.
- Weekdays: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (also Saturday, as Madhyama).
- Always left out: Amavasya, Shukla Pratipada, Rikta tithis (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi), Krishna Ekadashi onwards, Dagdha tithis, Vishti (Bhadra) karana, all nine inauspicious yogas, the hours around a Sankranti, and 3 days either side of an eclipse.
- Seasons avoided: Guru asta, Shukra asta, Adhika masa, Pitru paksha, Holashtak, Chaturmas.
- Griha Pravesh needs a fixed lagna (Vrishabha, Simha, Vrischika or Kumbha) with the 4th and 8th houses empty.
Times are for Guntur (India time). A Hindu day runs from sunrise to sunrise, so a time before sunrise belongs to the day before. Muhurtham is calculated from classical Jyotish rules using precise planetary positions for your city. Regional traditions vary, so please confirm with your family priest.
Questions
Is the date list enough to fix the muhurtham?
The list gives the good days for everyone in Guntur. The exact muhurtham also depends on the lagna at that minute and on the Tara bala and Chandra bala of the owner. The personal muhurtham checks all of these and gives the best minute of each date.
What do Uttama and Madhyama mean?
Uttama means every rule is met. Madhyama means the time is acceptable but one item is not the best, for example a Saturday, or a Krishna Shashthi to Dashami tithi. The reason is shown under the time.
Why do other calendars show different dates?
Published lists often differ from each other. Some count Rikta tithis (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi), Bhadra karana or the days around an eclipse, which Muhurta Chintamani avoids. Others follow a different regional custom for the months. We do not relax a rule to add dates: every listed time passes every rule for griha pravesh.
